Local doctor campaigns to lower health care costs

September 25, 2014 KOCO NEWS. A local doctor wants to lower your health care costs.

Dr. Keith Smith, with the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, posts his prices online. He started a group called the Free Market Medical Association. The group uses a website to help people find affordable and quality medical care nationwide.

Dr. Smith believes this is the answer Americans are looking for when it comes to finding the best health care option.

"It acts a bit like a Match.com, where the buyers and sellers can find each other," Smith said. "Imagine if a car dealer revealed his price to you only after you had signed and bought the car, and the chaos that would result. That's exactly how health care works."

The association is having their first conference Friday and Saturday at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City. The sold-out event will feature participants from around the country.
