Oklahoma had one of the highest employment increases in the nation for June.

July 19, 2004 NewsOK: Oklahoma’s jobless rate dipped to 4.5 percent in June from 4.6 percent the previous month, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Labor Department.

Oklahoma had one of the largest rises in employment in the nation for June, a 0.6 increase over the month. The state added 9,600 employed persons in June.

The state added jobs in all sectors over June, with the largest increase in the transportation and utilities sector with 3,100 new jobs.

Oklahoma tied the Washington, D.C., Indiana and North Dakota for largest increase in employment over the month.

The national unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in June, according to preliminary data released Friday.

In June, employment grew in 33 states and the District of Columbia, and decreased in 17 states.

Mississippi and Rhode Island had the highest unemployment rates among the states in June at 7.9 percent each. North Dakota had the lowest jobless rate, 2.7 percent.
