Oklahoma an outstanding place for first-time home buyers

August 18, 2014 NewsChannel4: If you are looking for your first home, a new study shows Oklahoma is a good place to start your hunt.

WalletHub created its ‘2014 Best & Worst Cities for First-Time Home Buyers’ by looking at several factors in the 300 largest U.S. cities.

Experts analyzed the affordability of homes, conditions of the real estate market and the community environment in all of the towns.

They also looked at median house prices, real estate taxes, price appreciation and price-to-rent ratios.

The best cities for first-time home buyers is as follows:

1.Broken Arrow, Okla.

2.Allen, Texas

3.Norman, Okla.

4.Denton, Texas

5.Frisco, Texas

6.Plano, Texas

7.McKinney, Texas

8.Centennial, Colo.

9.Thornton, Colo.

10.Richardson, Texas

Oklahoma City was 22nd on the list, followed by Tulsa at number 23.

The worst cities for first-time home buyers include the following:

•Yonkers, N.Y.

•Elizabeth, N.J.

•New Haven, Conn.

•Compton, Calif.

•Oakland, Calif.

•New Bedford, Mass.

•Paterson, N.J.

•Salinas, Calif.

•Newark, N.J.

•Richmond, Calif.
