July 29, 2014 NewsOK: Voters must register by Friday for Oklahoma’s Aug. 26 primary runoff

Friday is the deadline for voters to register for the Aug. 26 runoff election.

Runoffs feature the top two candidates in primary races where no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote.

Voter registration forms can be downloaded from the Oklahoma State Election Board’s website at http://elections.ok.gov or picked up at county election boards, post offices, tag agencies and libraries.

Democrats will be voting in a U.S. Senate runoff between state Sen. Connie Johnson, of Oklahoma City, and Jim Rogers, of Midwest City.

They will also be voting in the runoff for state schools superintendent, featuring Peggs Superintendent John Cox and Freda Deskin, a charter school founder and operator.

There are no statewide Republican races on the ballot, but both parties will vote in Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District seat.

On the Republican side, Army veteran Steve Russell faces Corporation Commissioner Patrice Douglas.

The Democratic runoff features retired professor Tom Guild, of Edmond, and state Sen. Al McAffrey, of Oklahoma City.
